Introduction:
Sociology and political science are two distinct academic disciplines that study different aspects of human society and behaviour. Sociology is the systematic and scientific study of human behaviour, social groups, and society. Sociology is a discipline that examines how humans interact with each other and how human behaviour, values, norms is shaped by structural and institutional forces and look at how we help create those social structures and institutions. Political science is that branch of knowledge that deals with the state and systems of government; the scientific analysis of political activity and behaviour.

- In the initial face of order to provide the status of discipline to Sociology, the early sociologists separated sociology from political science on the ground that the Political Science was concentrated with the state and power whereas Sociology was a broader discipline associated with the study of entire society. In the thirties, attempts were made by various scholars to create a scientific discipline of behavioural politic although now a day this attempt stands discredited.
- It is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish political science from political sociology. There are a number of Marxist studies having Marxist-socialist ideas as their hypothesis. Also as modern state is increasingly getting involved in providing welfare amenities, sociological slant to political activity and political thinking is gaining more and more acceptance.
Conclusion:
Sociology and Political science have a dynamic and mutually beneficial relationship. While they started as distinct disciplines, they have evolved to complement each other in understanding complex social and political phenomena. In the words of Anthony Giddens “ to teach the theory of the state to man who has not learned the first principle of Sociology is like teaching law of thermodynamics to man who has not learned Newton’s first law.”
