Why in news?
Recently, health agencies in the US and Canada have put out alerts asking its citizens to discard onions supplied by Thomson International Inc, linking a salmonella bacteria infection with the bulb.
More on the news:
- The salmonella bacteria is said to be transmitted through contaminated onions, cultivated by Thomson International.
- The Public Health Agency of Canada, the US CDC and Canadian Food Inspection Agency are currently investigating commonalities to identify the source and cause of contamination in the onions.
About Salmonellosis | |
Cause | The salmonella bacteria resides in animals. When it enters a human body it causes salmonellosis. |
Transmission | Salmonella can transmit to humans through contaminated water or food. |
