Values are generalized preferences to lead a particular kind of life or to attain a particular end state, like compassion, integrity, rule of law etc. Since values are learned through socialization, therefore education must help inculcate appropriate values like harmony, peace, compassion, humility, respect for human dignity & human rights and respect for the environment.
- Aristotle has rightly said that “educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”. Gandhiji also stressed that literary education is of no value, if it is not able to build up a sound character.

Hence, the very nature of value education empowers the citizens with certain attitudes and skills as well as give them the critical ability to use them in the contemporary everyday world, full of myriad challenges.
