        • Procedure for creation of new states is as follow:
        • Parliament can form new states, alter the area, boundaries or names of the existing states by a law passed by a simple majority.
        • No bills for the formation of new states or alteration of the boundaries or names of the existing states shall be introduced in either house of Parliament, except on the recommendation of the President.
        • The president, before introducing the bill in the Parliament, shall refer it to the concerned state legislature for its opinion within a specified time limit.
        • If the state legislature does not give its opinion within the specified time limit, the time limit may be extended.

        • The carpet area of a house has been enhanced to 160 square metres from 120 square metres for Middle Income Group-1, while it has been increased to 200 square metres from 150 square metres in case of Middle Income Group-2.The new rules will be effective from 1st of January 2017, the date on which the scheme became operational.

        • Justice (Retd.) G. Rohini is the head of the commission. The commission will work out the mechanism, criteria, norms and parameters in a scientific approach for sub-categorization within such OBCs.
        • It will also take up the exercise of identifying the respective castes or communities or sub-castes or synonyms in the Central List of Other Backward Classes and classifying them into their respective sub-categories.

        • The Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority has initiated a ‘water literacy’ campaign with the involvement of 70,000 students aiming to create awareness about the importance of water conservation in the State.

        •  Low scores on the EPI are indicative of the need for national sustainability efforts on a number of fronts, especially cleaning up air quality, protecting biodiversity, and reducing GHG emissions.
        • The top five countries in terms of green rankings are Switzerland, France, Denmark, Malta and Sweden.

        •  Besides, an assistance of Rs 500 would be provided to all pregnant women and infant who visit public health facilities. The scheme will come into effect from August 15 ,2018.
