RISING RAPE CASES: THE FUTURE LOOKS BLEAK
- (Relevant for Sociology Syllabus: Paper 1- Social Change in Modern Society & Paper 2- Visions of Social Change in India)
- (Relevant for GS Syllabus: Paper1- Role of women and women‘s organization, their problems and their remedies.)
- The case of rape and murder in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh remains a matter of discussion across the country. However, this case of Hathras is neither the first nor the last.
- Such incessant tragic incidents, along with humiliation of humanity, raise a question mark on the creation of a civilized society, because as soon as we look at the figures of NCRB i.e. National Crime Records Bureau, rape of women and the horrific figures present a different picture of society to us.
- The NCRB data shows that crime against women has increased by 44 per cent in the last decade. However, this is just one aspect of the picture, because these are the figures that were recorded, but many times the family is unable to even file their primary report due to public shame or disregard of the administration.
- In a civilized society, there can be no place for insulting and assaulting a woman. There are many laws for women’s safety in the country. A society that cannot protect daughters must look within and understand where it is going.
- If the incidents of rape in the country are seen in the light of statistics, there were 33,658 incidents of rape in the last year. Statistics of rape incidents indicate that we have not yet been able to create a safe environment for our daughters.
- Incidents such as rape, murder, acid throwing from around the country happen almost daily. When cases like rape come to the notice, administrative laxity and legal hurdles become a major obstacle in delivering justice to the victim. In fact, the administration and police are not weak, but their will to fight the problem becomes their limitation, which criminals take advantage of even if they do not want to.
- The thinking of a society is really prejudiced towards daughters. This type of conduct shows the mental debility of the masculine society. If society wants a meaningful solution to this gruesome problem, then it must first cleanse the conduct of its sons.
- If the society brings purity in the conduct of its sons, the mental debility of men will automatically end. This may reduce their violent tendencies towards women.
- In fact, society will have to sit and contemplate the safety of its daughters. Their safety has to be ensured. On the other hand, the media should be sensitive in such cases. The victim should get justice within the purview of the law. If seriousness has not yet been shown to tighten them, then the future maybe even worse.
