Indian High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das has visited the construction of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Bridge 1 and land port in Ramgarh upazila of Khagrachhari.
The commissioner visited the sites around 11am on Sunday.
Satisfied with the construction work, the Indian high commissioner said: “The opening of this bridge will improve the economy of the hill tracts. Communication and trade of Bangladesh with Tripura and other regions will get better.
“The land port, Chittagong International Port, will ease export-import procedure of businessmen.”
Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam said: “The new port will reduce unemployment and the bridge will benefit tourists visiting Tripura.”
“With support from the Indian government, the port construction will start soon after the completion of Tk120 crore bridge,” he added.
The construction of the bridge over Feni River started in 2017, and is expected to see completion by April 2020.
