Globalizing Indian Society: Myth or Reality
(Relevant for Essay Writing for UPSC Civil Services Examination)
Globalizing Indian Society: Myth or RealityRiya Chakra Bisoi (aka Angel), is a 23 year old young confident woman. She lives in Bangalore and works as a data engineer in the unicorn MNC, Google. Returning to home after a fast paced workday, she often and crowded Metro, she often have Champi session with her grandmother in the balcony of her flat at 78th floor, Trump Tower. Under the dark sky where stars are hardly visible. Her Dadi often tells her about the lifestyle & culture of 1960’s when she was at her age. All this looks like she starts describing how she married at 17 with his grandpa who was a shoe maker 7 part time agricultural laborer in small village of ‘Bhitargoon in Rajasthan’. She goes on describing how Angel’s father got job due to positive affirmation of govt. For their community & when they shift to Bangalore. All this looks quite illusionist to Angel who hardly have seen open green agricultural fields, local deity festivals & even she feel irritated about her last name “Chakra Bisoi”. So, she plugged in earphone gently and listened to new Latino hit Despacita & went for a peaceful sleep. Angel’s father, who have seen the deep shift in the yang & old generation often wonder how much great changed has happened in his society & culture even when he don’t see much changes in everyday life. He smiled when mercy of his XI class textbook lesson of Globalization, westernization, Modernization came to his mind and he acknowledged the power of it. Globalization as described the process of reducing barriers and free movement of people, goods & services, ideas, technology and what not across the artificially created territorial boundaries. Considering, its impact on Indian society we should better understand what constitute or characterize a society. A society is formed by a group of people who continuously by a group of people who continually interact with each other. Lifestyle of its peoples comprising their beliefs, food & clothing habits, ideas which they value, profession they undertake, festivals they celebrate etc. often characterize one society from other. All of this when summed up refers to the culture of society. Thus, one society defers from other. Thus one society differs from other due to cultural differences. From other due to cultural differences. Indian society constitution subscribe to the principle of Unity In Diversity. Following the principle of “Vasudev Kutumbakam” & “Atithi Devo Bhava” (guests are God) we incorporated a number of communities in the Bharat, nation. Some of them made it their home for eg- Parthian, Shakas, and Bactrias in Mauryan era. Some even ruled our society for eg- Mughals & Britishers. All of them brought with themselves their oven culture which when intermingled with Indian culture (mostly described as Vedic & Dravidian) led to beautiful milieu of pluralistic society. |
