Why in news?
- The Supreme Court today passed a slew of directions for all courts across the country to extensively use video-conferencing for judicial proceedings.
About
- The Government of India had initiated second phase of the eCourts project as one of the National e-Governance projects in 2015.
- The eCourts project has made significant progress under the guidance of e-Committee of Supreme Court of India in computerizing district and subordinate courts of the country through installation of case information software, hardware and local area network in courts.
- It is in line with the Digital India Programme of the Government of India.
