Alipore Bomb Case-1908

  • The ‘Alipore Bomb Case’ was “the first state trial of any magnitude in India”.

  • The British Government arrested Sri Aurobindo, a prominent Nationalist Leader at the time, Barindra Ghose, and many young revolutionaries. They were charged with “Conspiracy” or “waging war against the King”.

Clinical Trials

  • Before a medicine is marketed ,it must undergo extensive testing.
  • The clinical  trial stage is reached only after several years of lab  and animal testing and only if the results indicate that is safe for the humans,the product  undergoes clinical test in humans.
  • Less than 1.4% of all global clinical trails are done in India.
  • But number of clinical trails done in India has slowly increased to 97 in 2017 from all time low of 17 in 2013

 Changi Naval Base

       Significance of Changi Naval Base for India

  • The Changi base will enhance Indian Navy’s operational reach.
  • It will also play prominent role in protection of naval vessels, supplies, repair  facilities, administration and logistics support.
  • It will give boost to India’s Act East Policy and strengthen India’s role for safety, stability, regional peace and navigational freedom.

Arctic Council

  • The Arctic Council is a high-level intergovernmental forum which addresses issues faced by the Arctic governments and people living in the Arctic region.
  • The Ottawa Declaration of 1996 formally established the Arctic Council as a high level intergovernmental forum to provide a means for promoting cooperation, coordination and interaction among the Arctic states, with the involvement of the Arctic Indigenous communities and other Arctic inhabitants on common Arctic issues, in particular issues of sustainable development and environmental protection in the Arctic.
  • The Ottawa Declaration named eight members of the Arctic Council: Canada, Russia, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, the United States, Sweden and Finland.
  • From 2017 to 2019, Finland is serving as Chair of the Council. 
  • India has a Observer Status

IMAP Mission

  • The Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) mission will help researchers better understand the boundary of the heliosphere
  • Heliosphere is the region where the constant flow of particles from our Sun, called the solar wind, collides with material from the rest of the galaxy.
  • This collision limits the amount of harmful cosmic radiation entering the heliosphere.
  • IMAP will collect and analyze particles that make it through.
  • The spacecraft will be positioned about 1.5 million kilometers away from Earth towards the Sun at what is called the first Lagrange point or L1
