Meet Sanjita Mohapatra, AIR 10, UPSC CSE 2019

Odisha’s Sundargarh woman Sanjita Mohapatra, made her city proud by securing 10th rank in the 2019 civil services examination conducted by UPSC. The results of the prestigious and one of the toughest exams were announced on 4th August.

Education & Work Experience

  • Sanjita Mohapatra completed her schooling from Rourkela. She did Mechanical Engineering from CET Bhubneshwar.
  • She had joined SAIL in 2013 and worked in Rourkela Steel Plant till March 2018. She had then quit her job to prepare for civil services exams.

Motivation to become IAS

  • She had cleared OAS Exam too in year 2018. After being selected in OAS she had said,…”In small towns, we would often hear parents say our daughter/son will become a collector. Perhaps that stayed with me”.
  • After a year she had revealed this, she had revealed this Sanjita took a big leap towards her and her parents’ dream of becoming a collector by securing the 10th rank in the All India Civil Service.

Her Future Objective:

  • After her result she said “It is a baby step toward a career, which I always wanted to pursue. I hope I will be able to achieve the objective of serving the society because of which I opted for this sector.
  • Sanjita wants to ensure allround development and betterment of people at her place of posting.

Her Winning Strategy

  • As Many times suggested by Vikash Ranjan Sir to his students for Revision of all Subject on Monthly basis,  Sanjita had no daily timetable. She had monthly targets on which all subjects to complete. Sanjita said,”Every night, I would evaluate whether I was on the right track to achieve that target,”.
  • Instead of studying long hours at a stretch, Sanjita said, preparing a weekly and monthly schedule and achieving the targets was the key to crack the examinations.
  • Sanjita advised aspirants not to imitate anyone and follow a study pattern that suits them. Every student is special with distinctive potentials. Every one should make their study plan as per their suitability.

Role of Coaching in her Preparation

  • Sanjita Mohapatra did Self Study for General Studies. She took GS Current Affairs Class at Delhi. She did Coaching for Sociology Optional for three and half month and Practised Essay Writing under Vikash Ranjan Sir.

Her Message to Future IAS Aspirants

“To translate the UPSC dream into reality is tough. It requires loads of patience. There would be times when you might feel you cannot make it. But you have to stay determined and focused”.
