{"id":9158,"date":"2020-07-23T13:25:44","date_gmt":"2020-07-23T07:55:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=9158"},"modified":"2020-07-23T13:25:44","modified_gmt":"2020-07-23T07:55:44","slug":"hope-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/hope-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"Hope mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Relevance: Prelims: Science and technology<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/iasbhai.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hope-Orbitor.png\" alt=\"Emirates Mars Mission | Hope Orbiter | UPSC\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Why In News?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Recently, The<strong>\u00a0United Arab Emirates(UAE)<\/strong>\u00a0launched its<strong>\u00a0first mission to Mars.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It was initially due to launch on July 14 but has been delayed twice due to bad weather.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>About the mission:\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The UAE first announced plans for the mission in 2014 and launched a<strong>\u00a0National Space Programme in 2017<\/strong>\u00a0to develop local expertise as it lacks the scientific and industrial base of the big space-faring nations. It has an ambitious plan for a Mars settlement by 2117.<\/li>\n<li>It strives to develop the<strong>\u00a0scientific and technical capabilities<\/strong>\u00a0of the gulf nation and move away from its reliance on oil.<\/li>\n<li>It has cost $200 million and aims to\u00a0<strong>provide a complete picture of the Martian atmosphere<\/strong>\u00a0for the first time, studying daily and seasonal changes.<\/li>\n<li>It was launched from Japan\u2019s Tanegashima Space Center on an H-IIA rocket from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It will have a seven-month journey to Mars.<\/li>\n<li>The MBRSC( Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre) space centre in Dubai will then oversee the spacecraft journey to the red planet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>Instruments aboard:<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0It is an orbiter and has three instruments, two spectrometers and one exploration imager (high-resolution camera).<\/li>\n<li>One spectrometer will determine the temperature of the planet through the next year. The other will\u00a0<strong>measure the oxygen and hydrogen levels<\/strong>\u00a0at least 40,000 kilometres from the surface of Mars.<\/li>\n<li>The imager will provide<strong>\u00a0information on the ozone levels on the Red Planet.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>Some other important Mars Missions:<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insightsonindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/mars_missions.jpg\" alt=\"Hope: UAE's first mission to Mars - INSIGHTSIAS\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>NASA\u2019s Mars Rover Missions-<\/strong>\u00a0It consists of Spirit and Opportunity rovers. They searched for and characterize a wide range of rocks and soils for clues to past water activity on Mars. They landed on Mars in 2004 and Opportunity performed for 15 years.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NASA\u2019s MAVEN<\/strong>\u2013 It stands for Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution. This mission was developed to study the Martian atmosphere while orbiting Mars and was launched in 2013.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NASA\u2019s InSight Mars Mission-<\/strong>\u00a0It stands for Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport and is part of NASA\u2019s Discovery Programme of 1992. It is a two-year mission that will study the deep interior of Mars to learn how all celestial bodies with rocky surfaces, including Earth and the Moon, formed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>ISRO\u2019s MOM-<\/strong>\u00a0 It stands for Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) and is also called Manglayan.\u00a0 It was India\u2019s first venture into the interplanetary space. It was launched in 2013 as a technology demonstration mission.
