{"id":9082,"date":"2020-07-20T15:03:33","date_gmt":"2020-07-20T09:33:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=9082"},"modified":"2020-07-20T15:03:33","modified_gmt":"2020-07-20T09:33:33","slug":"state-of-food-security-and-nutrition-in-the-world-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/state-of-food-security-and-nutrition-in-the-world-report\/","title":{"rendered":"State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"hero-section\" data-type=\"type-1\">\n<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<h1 class=\"page-title\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Relevance: Prelims: Polity: International<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/Ec0CffLWoAMfxBe.png\" alt=\"International Fund for Agricultural Development on Twitter: &quot;The ...\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<\/section>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>\u2022 The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) 2020 report was released on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development which tracks the progress of nations towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals 2030.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>About:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 It is produced jointly by the<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO)<\/span>,<\/strong> the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD),<\/strong> <strong>t<\/strong><strong>he United Nations Children\u2019s Fund (UNICEF), the UN World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022<strong> Its first edition was brought out in 2017.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>Key highlights of the report:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>The world is not on track to meet the goal of zero hunger by 2030 i.e. SDG2.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Between 8.3 crore and 13 crore people globally are likely to go hungry this year due to the economic recession triggered by COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Hunger continues to be on the rise since 2014 and the global prevalence of undernourishment, or overall percentage of hungry people, is 8.9%. Almost 69 crore people went hungry in 2019 \u2014 up by 1 crore in 2018<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Asia remains home to the greatest number of undernourished (38 crore). Africa is second (25 crore), followed by Latin America and the Caribbean (4.8 crore).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 In 2019, 21.3% (14.4.crore) of children under 5 years were stunted, 6.9% (4.7 crore) wasted and 5.6% (3.8 million) overweight.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 A healthy diet costs more than \u20b9143 (or $1.90\/ day), which is the international poverty threshold.
