{"id":9053,"date":"2020-07-18T13:53:05","date_gmt":"2020-07-18T08:23:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=9053"},"modified":"2020-07-18T13:53:05","modified_gmt":"2020-07-18T08:23:05","slug":"indias-declining-maternal-mortality-ratio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/indias-declining-maternal-mortality-ratio\/","title":{"rendered":"India&#8217;s declining maternal mortality ratio"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"hero-section\" data-type=\"type-1\">\n<header class=\"entry-header\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Relevance: Prelims: Health<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<\/section>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>\u2022 According to the special bulletin on Maternal Mortality in India 2016-18 the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in India has declined to 113 in 2016-18 from 122 in 2015-17 and 130 in 2014-2016.<\/p>\n<p><b>About:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/sci-tech\/health\/qws9uh\/article32106660.ece\/alternates\/FREE_435\/MaternalMortality\" alt=\"India registers a steep decline in maternal mortality ratio - The ...\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 It is released by the Office of the Registrar General\u2019s Sample Registration System (SRS).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 One of the key indicators of maternal mortality is the MMR, defined as the number of maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The target 3.1 of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the United Nations aims to reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 1,00,000 live births.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The MMR of various States according to the bulletin includes Assam (215), Bihar (149), Madhya Pradesh (173), Chhattisgarh (159), Odisha (150), Rajasthan (164), Uttar Pradesh (197) and Uttarakhand (99). The southern States registered a lower MMR \u2014 Andhra Pradesh (65), Telangana (63), Karnataka (92), Kerala (43) and Tamil Nadu (60).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Maternal mortality in a region is a measure of reproductive health of women in the area.
