{"id":8572,"date":"2020-06-12T16:05:49","date_gmt":"2020-06-12T10:35:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=8572"},"modified":"2020-06-12T16:05:49","modified_gmt":"2020-06-12T10:35:49","slug":"population-of-asiatic-lions-increased-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/population-of-asiatic-lions-increased-in-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Population of Asiatic lions increased in India"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"hero-section\" data-type=\"type-1\">\n<header class=\"entry-header\"><span style=\"font-size: 27px; color: #0000ff;\"><b>Relevance: Prelims: Environment: Biodiversity<\/b><\/span><\/header>\n<\/section>\n<header><\/header>\n<header><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/span><\/header>\n<header>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.toiimg.com\/img\/76317182\/Master.jpg\" alt=\"Roaring success: Population of Asiatic lions in India up 29% in 5 ...\" \/><\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>\u2022 As per recently conducted census shows that the population\/numbers of Asiatic lions have risen by 29% over five years.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>Key Highlights of the census:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 This year a population estimation exercise was carried out in the first week of June because the five-yearly regular census in May could not be held due to COVID-19<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>The population has increased from 523 in 2015 and to 674 in 2020 including male, female and cubs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 There is a 36% increase in the distribution area of lions from 22,000 square kilometres in 2015 to 30,000 square kilometres in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 This population of Asiatic Lions are currently located in the protected areas and agro-pastoral landscapes of Saurashtra, Gujarat.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 According to experts, the population of lions is currently growing at about two per cent a year.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>About Asiatic Lions:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong> Asiatic lions (Scientific Name: Panthera leo persica)<\/strong><\/span> are slightly smaller than African lions and males have only moderate mane growth at the top of the head so that their ears are always visible.
