{"id":8279,"date":"2020-05-29T12:53:56","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T07:23:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=8279"},"modified":"2020-05-29T12:53:56","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T07:23:56","slug":"tension-between-india-and-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/tension-between-india-and-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Tension between India and China"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"hero-section\" data-type=\"type-1\" data-alignment=\"left\">\n<header class=\"entry-header\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Relevance: Prelims\/Mains: G.S paper II: Polity: International<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>CONTEXT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<\/section>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>\u2022 Hindi-Chini Bhai-Bhai \u2014 the famous slogan which was the tagline of India\u2019s diplomacy with China in the mid-1950s now seems to be a distant dream as the two Asian powerhouses are entangled in a serious border dispute along Eastern Ladakh and Naku La in Sikkim.<br \/>\n\u2022 The India-China border has been witnessing tensions over the past couple of months, with incidents reported in at least four different locations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).<br \/>\n\u2022 The boundary in the Sikkim sector is broadly agreed, but has not been delineated. Face-offs occur when military patrols encounter each other in the contested zones between overlapping claim lines. Protocols agreed to in 2005 and 2013 detail rules of engagement to prevent such incidents, but have not always been adhered to.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/currentaffairs.gktoday.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/India-China.jpg\" alt=\"Fact Box: India-China Border Dispute - Current Affairs Today\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Where and Why do face-off occur?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\u2022 Face-off and stand-off situations occur along the LAC in areas where India and China have overlapping claim lines. The LAC has never been demarcated. <strong>Differing perceptions are particularly acute in around two dozen spots across the Western (Ladakh), Middle (Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand), Sikkim, and Eastern (Arunachal Pradesh) sectors of the India-China border.<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 LAC that has never been demarcated. As a result, India and China have overlapping claim lines along LAC which leads to such clashes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.arabnews.pk\/sites\/default\/files\/userimages\/20\/disputed-border.jpg\" alt=\"India, China agree to end Himalayan border face-off | Arab News PK\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Why has not the LAC been demarcated?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\u2022 India has already proposed an exercise to clarify differing perceptions of the LAC to prevent such incidents a long time ago. <strong>Maps were exchanged in the Middle Sector, but the exercise fell through in the Western Sector where separation between both the border is the greatest.<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 China has since rejected this exercise, viewing it as adding another complication to the on-going boundary negotiations.
