Kovilpatti kadalai mittai gets GI tag | Chennai News ...\" width=\"708\" height=\"471\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> Kovilpatti kadalai mittai (chikki or sweet made of peanuts and jaggery) has got a geographical indication (GI) tag.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Kovilpatti kadalai mittai is produced by using both groundnuts and jaggery (organic jaggery), in carefully selected quantities from selected specific locations in Tamil Nadu. The groundnuts are grown in the native black soil in and around Kovilpatti. After sourcing, the groundnuts are shelled and roasted.
