{"id":7563,"date":"2020-04-18T14:33:37","date_gmt":"2020-04-18T09:03:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=7563"},"modified":"2020-04-18T14:33:37","modified_gmt":"2020-04-18T09:03:37","slug":"india-u-s-missile-deals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/india-u-s-missile-deals\/","title":{"rendered":"India &#038; U.S missile deals"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"hero-section\" data-type=\"type-1\" data-alignment=\"left\">\n<header class=\"entry-header\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Relevance: Prelims: Science and technology<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<\/section>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>\u2022 The U.S. State Department has approved two potential missile deals with India.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The first deal, for which Boeing is the contractor, is for 10 AGM-84L Harpoon Block II air-launched missiles and related equipment.<\/p>\n<p><b>Key highlights:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 These missiles can be fitted onto Boeing\u2019s P-8I (Poseidon-Eight India) maritime patrol aircraft, and are intended to enhance India\u2019s capability in anti-surface warfare while defending its sea lanes.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The second deal, for $63 million and principally contracted with Raytheon Integrated Defense System, is for 16 MK 54 All Up Round Lightweight Torpedoes (LWT); three MK 54 Exercise Torpedoes (MK 54 LWT Kit procurement required); and related equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Also included are MK 54 spare parts, torpedo containers, two Recoverable Exercise Torpedoes (REXTORP) with containers and related equipment and support from the U.S. government and contractors.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The torpedoes are expected to enhance India\u2019s anti-submarine warfare capability and can be used with the P-8I.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification to the U.S. Congress, notifying it of the possible sale.
