{"id":7474,"date":"2020-04-10T14:04:35","date_gmt":"2020-04-10T08:34:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=7474"},"modified":"2020-04-10T14:04:35","modified_gmt":"2020-04-10T08:34:35","slug":"madhuvan-gajar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/madhuvan-gajar\/","title":{"rendered":"Madhuvan Gajar"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"hero-section\" data-type=\"type-1\" data-alignment=\"left\">\n<header class=\"entry-header\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Relevance: Prelims: Science and Technology<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gstimes.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/carot.jpg\" alt=\"Madhuban Gajar: A new biofortified carrot variety \u2014 GS TIMES\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<\/section>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>\u2022 Madhuvan Gajar, a <strong>biofortified carrot<\/strong> variety with high \u03b2-carotene and iron content developed by Shri Vallabhhai Vasrambhai Marvaniya, a farmer scientist from Junagadh district, Gujarat is benefitting more than 150 local farmers in the area.<\/p>\n<p><b>About:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The variety is being cultivated in more than 1000 hectares of land in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh during the last three years.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The Madhuvan Gajar is a highly nutritious carrot variety developed through the selection method with higher \u03b2-carotene content (277.75 mg\/kg) and iron content (276.7 mg\/kg) dry basis and is used for various value-added products like carrot chips, juices, and pickles.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Among all the varieties tested, beta-carotene and iron content were found to be superior.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Shri VallabhaiVasrambhai Marvaniyawas conferred with a National Award by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi during Festival of Innovation (FOIN) \u2013 2017.
