There shall be a Vice-President of India who shall be the exofficio <\/em>Chairman<\/strong> of the Council of States <\/strong>and shall not hold any other office of profit.<\/p>\n

ELECTION<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Vice-President shall be elected by the members of an electoral college consisting of the members of both Houses<\/strong> of Parliament <\/strong>in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote and the voting at such election shall be by secret ballot.<\/p>\n

QUALIFICATION<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Shall be a citizen of India, must have completed 35 years of age and is qualified for election as a member of Council of States.<\/p>\n

TENURE<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Shall hold office for a term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office.<\/p>\n

RESIGNATION<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Vice-President may, by writing under his hand addressed to the President, resign his office.<\/p>\n

REMOVAL<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Vice-President may be removed from his office by a resolution of the Council of States passed by a majority of all<\/strong> the then members of the Council <\/strong>and agreed to by the House of the People. However, at least fourteen days\u2019 notice must be given of the intention to move such resolution.<\/p>\n

OATH OR AFFIRMATION<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Vice-President shall make and subscribe before the President an oath or affirmation.<\/p>\n

OTHER IMPORTANT POINTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

DISPUTES ARISING OUT OF ELECTIONS<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

All doubts and disputes arising out of or in connection with the election of a President or Vice-President shall be inquired into and decided by the Supreme Court <\/strong>whose decision shall be final.<\/p>\n
