color: #ff0000;\"><em><b>Key highlights:<\/b><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 West Bengal led the list with 27 sites followed by Odisha at 23.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Including those, there are 324 sites that may be contaminated, with 196 still awaiting an investigation and confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The Union Environment Ministry has been monitoring \u2014 and has begun to commission clean-up jobs \u2014 at sites known to be contaminated.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Twenty sites in 6 States have seen agencies prepare a detailed project reports, or a plan of action, to clean up sites.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000;\"><em><b>Types of contamination:<\/b><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 These incidents include oil contamination due to<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 leakage of underground oil pipelines of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in Tamil Nadu,<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 pesticide and heavy metal contamination in creeks at Eloor, Kerala,<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 chromium contamination at Rania, improperly disposed electronic waste lying on the banks of river Ramganga, Moradabad;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 mercury contamination of the soil at Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, and Ganjam, Odisha, and<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 chromium contamination at Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, and Lohianagar, Uttar Pradesh.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>For more such notes, Articles, News &amp;
