{"id":6894,"date":"2020-03-05T15:46:04","date_gmt":"2020-03-05T10:16:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=6894"},"modified":"2020-03-05T15:46:04","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T10:16:04","slug":"haulage-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/haulage-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"Haulage charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Relevance: Prelims: Economy<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/haulage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6895\" src=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/haulage.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"638\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/haulage.jpg 638w, https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/haulage-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/haulage-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 638px) 100vw, 638px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To make the business of running trains more viable for private operators in the future, the government has decided to delink the cost of energy consumed by the private trains from the overall haulage charges payable to Railways.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Haulage charge is the money private players will have to pay to Railways, on a per-km basis, for using its infrastructure in operating the trains \u2013 track, signaling, associated manpower and the like.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key highlights:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It has been decided that if the private players \u2013 who will be running 150 trains on 100 identified routes \u2013 bring in modern trains that are in vogue across the world that display the actual amount of energy consumed.<\/li>\n<li>A feature not reliably available in Indian train systems.<\/li>\n<li>The haulage charge will come down to around Rs 512 per km, much below the Rs 668 per km that has been set for the private companies.<\/li>\n<li>The Rs-668 per km figure includes the energy cost as well.<\/li>\n<li>However, policymakers have decided that delinking energy cost leaves a leeway for the private player to bring in energy-efficient trainsets.
