One of the most notable changes has been the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>increasing number of mothers who work outside the home.<\/strong><\/span> Earlier in the society, most family <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>households<\/strong><\/span> consisted of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>one parent working <\/strong><\/span>outside the home and the other being the primary childcare provider. Because of traditional <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>gender roles<\/strong><\/span> and family structures, this was typically a working father and a stay-at-home mom.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Quantitative research<\/strong><\/span> shows that in America in 1940 only 27 percent of all women worked outside the home. Today, 59.2 percent of all women do. Almost half of women with children younger than one year of age are employed (U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee Report 2010).<\/p>\n<p>Sociologists interested in this topic might approach its study from a variety of angles. One might be interested in its <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>impact on a child\u2019s development<\/strong><\/span>, another may explore<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> <strong>related economic<\/strong> <strong>values<\/strong><\/span>, while a third might examine how other social institutions have responded to this shift in society.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/wome.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6600\" src=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/wome.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"351\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>How should a student of Sociology think about impact of working mothers on the society?<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A Student studying the impact of working mothers on a child\u2019s development might ask questions <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>about children raised in childcare settings<\/strong><\/span>. How is a child <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>socialized<\/strong> <\/span>differently when raised largely by a childcare provider rather than a parent? Do people view money\u2014savings, spending, debt\u2014differently than they have in the past?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Curiosity<\/strong> about this trend\u2019s influence on social institutions might lead a researcher to explore its effect on the nation\u2019s <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>educational system<\/strong><\/span>. Has the increase in working mothers shifted traditional family responsibilities onto schools, such as providing lunch and even breakfast for students? <strong>How<\/strong> does the creation of after-school care programs shift resources away from traditional academics?<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>As these examples show<\/strong>, <strong>You should relate Sociological facts with real-world topics.<\/strong> <\/span>Their research often influences social policies and political issues.
