{"id":6441,"date":"2020-02-22T14:36:03","date_gmt":"2020-02-22T09:06:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=6441"},"modified":"2020-02-22T16:25:28","modified_gmt":"2020-02-22T10:55:28","slug":"6441-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/6441-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern European Enclosure Dam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Relevance: Prelims\/Mains: G.S paper I: Geography<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/damm.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6442\" src=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/damm.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Scientists have proposed the construction of a Northern European Enclosure Dam (NEED) enclosing all of the North Sea as an extraordinary measure to protect Northern European countries from rising seas as a result of climate change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Northern European Enclosure Dam (NEED) is a proposed solution to the problem of rising ocean levels in Northern Europe.<\/li>\n<li>It would be a megaproject, involving the construction of two massive dams of a combined length of 637 km enclosing all of the North Sea: one between France and England, and another between Scotland and Norway.<\/li>\n<li>The concept was conceived by the oceanographers Sjoerd Groeskamp and Joakim Kjellsson.<\/li>\n<li>According to them, separating the North and Baltic Seas from the Atlantic Ocean may be the \u201cmost viable option\u201d to protect Northern Europe against unstoppable sea level rise (SLR).<\/li>\n<li>The scheme\u2019s authors describe it as \u201cmore of a warning than a solution\u201d.
