This year\u2019s analysis shows corruption is more pervasive in countries where big money can flow freely into electoral campaigns and where governments listen only to the voices of wealthy or well-connected individuals. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Transparency International released the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI-2019).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>About:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>index ranks 180 countries<\/strong><\/span> and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, according to experts and business people.<\/li>\n<li>It uses a scale of<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> zero to 100, where zero is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Key findings:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The top countries are New Zealand and Denmark, with scores of 87 each, followed by Finland (86), Singapore (85), Sweden (85) and Switzerland (85).<\/li>\n<li>The bottom countries are Somalia, South Sudan and Syria with scores of 9, 12 and 13, respectively.<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">India\u2019s ranking has slipped from 78 to 80 compared to the previous year.
