{"id":5532,"date":"2020-01-11T16:47:50","date_gmt":"2020-01-11T11:17:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=5532"},"modified":"2020-01-11T16:47:50","modified_gmt":"2020-01-11T11:17:50","slug":"islamic-state-current-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/islamic-state-current-issue\/","title":{"rendered":"Islamic State: Current issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Relevance: Mains: G.S paper I:\u00a0Social empowerment, communalism, regionalism and secularism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Islamic.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5533\" src=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Islamic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"155\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Context:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The fight against the Islamic State (IS) was won with the help of three major forces on the ground, for the Western coalition on its own would not have managed to do much with remote-controlled bombs.<br \/>\n\u2022 These were the Kurds, the Shia militia and ordinary Muslims (Sunni and Shia) who spoke up against the kind of Islam espoused by the IS and its supporters, choking the movement of easy recruits.<br \/>\n\u2022 Towards the end of 2019, Donald Trump\u2019s America betrayed the Kurds and abandoned them.<br \/>\n\u2022 In early 2020, with the \u2018targeted killing\u2019 of Qassem Soleimani, Trump\u2019s America betrayed the second partner.<br \/>\n\u2022 The very Shia forces with which the West had collaborated in both Afghanistan and Iraq to fight al-Qaeda and the IS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Narrow identity:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At the core of the crisis in the so-called Muslim world is not the U.S. or any other external factor. It is the narrowness of Muslims themselves.<br \/>\n\u2022 It is the narrowness of their understanding of themselves.<br \/>\n\u2022 By failing to allow other Muslims to believe or not to believe in their own ways, they do not just divide themselves up \u2014 persecuting the atheists, Ahmedis, Bohras, Shias, Sunnis etc. \u2014 they also cut themselves off from other communities.<br \/>\n\u2022 If you cannot allow fellow Muslims to differ openly, how will you accept Hindus or Sikhs who do not believe like you do?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Conclusion:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This is at the heart of the problem.
