style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Impact of these changes on radical and conservative thinkers and Sociology being an intellectual effort by them to \u2018objectively\u2019 understand the changes in European society .<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Answer\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Answer:<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The emergence of Sociology, as a study of society, can best be understood in terms of understanding the relationship between, society and ideas. It emerged first in Europe, as a response to the \u201csocial conditions and the intellectual climate\u201d prevailing in Europe around eighteenth century.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The \u2018Enlightenment period\u2019, in the European society, is the most appropriate point of departure, into the study of the origins of \u2018Sociological Theory\u2019. A \u2018scientific approach\u2019 to the study of society dates back to that period. The eighteenth century thinkers began to study the human conditions in a scientific way using the \u2018methods of the natural sciences.\u2019 Also, these thinkers upheld \u2018reason\u2019 as a measure to judge \u2018social institutions\u2019 and their suitability for human nature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In the post-Enlightenment period, there were three, intellectual influence, that led to the emergence of Sociology<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\"><u>The Philosophy of History<\/u>:<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\"> The contributions of Auguste Comte, Herbert Spencer, Karl Marx , reflected the impact of this\u2019 intellectual trend\u2019 in their sociological writings. Its contribution on the philosophical side can be seen in the notions of \u2018development and progress.\u2019 On the scientific side, it has given the concepts of \u2018historical periods of social types.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\"><u>The Biological Theories of Evolution<\/u>:<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\"> Herbert Spencer and Emile Durkheim, reflected this intellectual trend, in their writings. The conception of society, as an organism, led to the formulation of the term of \u2018social evolution.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong><u>Social Surveys<\/u>:<\/strong> It forms an important element in modern Sociology. It argued that only, through \u2018knowledge of the social conditions\u2019 can one arrive at solutions to solve social problems, like \u2018poverty\u2019 prevalent in society. Scientific methods thus came to be regarded as the most accurate and objective.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>These \u2018intellectual climate\u2019<\/strong> along with the social conditions such as French revolution, Industrial revolution etc. moved both conservative and radical thinkers. <strong>According to the \u2018conservatives\u2019<\/strong> such conditions would lead to \u2018chaos and disorder\u2019. According to the radicals, such changes would lead to \u2018social transformation.\u2019 Therefore, certain \u2018changes\u2019 taking place in the eighteenth and nineteenth century in Europe bothered social thinkers. Sociology , grew essentially as a product of the \u2018 reflections of the great thinkers\u2019 reflecting on the social changes , and their impact on society .<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The discipline was an \u2018intellectual response\u2019 to the conditions unfolding in a fast changing European
