{"id":5125,"date":"2019-12-09T20:18:02","date_gmt":"2019-12-09T14:48:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=5125"},"modified":"2019-12-09T20:18:02","modified_gmt":"2019-12-09T14:48:02","slug":"virtual-autopsy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/virtual-autopsy\/","title":{"rendered":"Virtual autopsy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Relevance: G.S paper III: Science and technology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Union Health Minister told Rajya Sabha that it is likely to be possible soon to carry out autopsies without dissecting the body.<\/li>\n<li>If this happens then India will be the first country in South and Southeast Asia to carry out these \u201cvirtual autopsies.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is Viral Autopsy?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Virtopsy is a word combining \u2018virtual\u2019 and \u2018autopsy\u2019 for the purpose of autopsy and to find the cause of the death.<\/li>\n<li>In a Virtopsy (Virtual Autopsy), doctors use radiation to examine the innards to reach a conclusion about the cause of death. A CT or an MRI machine could be used, in the same way that they are used to scan a living human\u2019s body.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Benefits:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Virtopsy can be employed as an alternative to standard autopsies for broad and systemic examination of the whole body as it is less time consuming, aids better diagnosis, and renders respect to religious sentiments.<\/li>\n<li>The traditional postmortem often makes members of the dead person\u2019s family uncomfortable. That is the primary reason for the increasing use of virtual autopsies internationally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Indian scenario:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>AIIMS, New Delhi and ICMR are working together on a technique for post-mortem without incising\/dissecting the body.<\/li>\n<li>This technique is likely to become functional in the next six months.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Relevance: G.S paper III: Science and technology Why in news?
