Key Highlights of the report:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Anticipated emissions:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \n
    • Greenhouse gas emissions have risen 1.5 per cent per year over the last decade. Emissions in 2018, including from land-use changes such as deforestation, hit a new high of 55.3 gigatonnes of CO2 equivalent.<\/li>\n
    • Even if all current unconditional commitments under the Paris Agreement are implemented, temperatures are expected to rise by 3.2\u00b0C over pre-industrial levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      1. Accused countries:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
          \n
        • The United States is the highest producer of greenhouse gases when measured on a per capita basis. Overall, China is the world\u2019s largest producer.<\/li>\n
        • India is the third-largest emitter behind the United States and China respectively. India\u2019s per capita emissions, however, are significantly below the United States, China and many others.<\/li>\n
        • G20 nations collectively account for 78 per cent of all emissions, but only five G20 members have committed to a long-term zero emissions target.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Way ahead:<\/strong><\/p>\n

            \n
          • To meet the 1.5\u00b0C temperature goal of the Paris Agreement, global greenhouse gas emissions must fall by 7.6 per cent each year between 2020 and 2030.<\/li>\n
          • To deliver on these cuts, the levels of ambition in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) must increase at least fivefold for the 1.5\u00b0C goal and threefold for the 2\u00b0C.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
