{"id":4323,"date":"2019-09-09T22:57:38","date_gmt":"2019-09-09T17:27:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/?p=4323"},"modified":"2019-09-09T22:57:38","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T17:27:38","slug":"hygiene-ratings-for-eateries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/hygiene-ratings-for-eateries\/","title":{"rendered":"Hygiene ratings for eateries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Relevance: mains: G.S paper III: health<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why in News?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The FSSAI will soon require restaurants and hotels to display hygiene ratings on their doors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Hygiene ratings for eateries<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will soon require restaurants and hotels to display hygiene ratings on their doors, says a news report.<\/li>\n<li>There will also be food supervisors to check the safety of what is served, for which the regulator intends to train around 170,000 people.<\/li>\n<li>The FSSAI is in the process of forming guidelines to implement the rating system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What are the Key benefis<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If implemented diligently, the programme would be in the interest of the customer and could raise the quality of food served.<\/li>\n<li>Ratings will give restaurant owners an incentive to improve their standards and will likely filter out food joints that pose a health risk.<\/li>\n<li>That extra costs borne to maintain quality may raise menu prices, too, is another matter. In general, few can object to such an idea.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Way forward<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>However, any system that requires an external assessment of quality could be abused.<\/li>\n<li>As those in the hospitality business would testify, state-directed scrutiny tends to descend all too easily into an \u201cinspector raj\u201d, with officials determined to give them a hard time, unless given some reason\u2014pecuniary or otherwise\u2014not to.<\/li>\n<li>As a way to guard against this, the criteria for hygiene ratings will need to be clear-cut and uniformly applicable, with no scope for subjectivity.<\/li>\n<li>A lot of well-intended initiatives end up hurting a market simply because their execution is faulty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Relevance: mains: G.S paper III: health Why in News?
