In 2024\u201325, debates around the <strong data-start=\"628\" data-end=\"679\">Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act)<\/strong>, expansion of <strong data-start=\"694\" data-end=\"719\">AI surveillance tools<\/strong>, and digitisation of public services have intensified. While the state presents digitalisation as a tool of efficiency, transparency, and inclusion, sociologists raise critical questions about <strong data-start=\"913\" data-end=\"962\">power, exclusion, privacy, and social control<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"965\" data-end=\"1203\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">This blog analyses India\u2019s digital governance trajectory through the lens of <strong data-start=\"1042\" data-end=\"1064\">Sociology Optional<\/strong>, linking current affairs with classical and contemporary sociological theories on the <strong data-start=\"1151\" data-end=\"1202\">state, bureaucracy, citizenship, and inequality<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1210\" data-end=\"1263\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Digital_Governance_as_a_Contemporary_State_Project\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Digital Governance as a Contemporary State Project<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1265\" data-end=\"1624\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">From a sociological perspective, the state is not merely an administrative apparatus but a <strong data-start=\"1356\" data-end=\"1393\">structure of power and legitimacy<\/strong>. Yet, from a sociological standpoint, welfare is not just about efficiency but <strong data-start=\"2599\" data-end=\"2629\">social justice and dignity<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2632\" data-end=\"2838\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Pierre Bourdieu\u2019s concept of <strong data-start=\"2661\" data-end=\"2679\">social capital<\/strong> helps explain why digital welfare does not benefit all equally.
