Marshall argued that citizenship includes civil, political, and <strong>social rights<\/strong>, especially welfare rights.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">ICDS embodies this principle by treating nutrition, early learning, and maternal care as <strong>state-guaranteed social rights<\/strong>, not private burdens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">For millions of India\u2019s poorest children, ICDS is their first and often only point of contact with the welfare state.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"2\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong> Early Childhood as a Public Good\u2014Amartya Sen &amp; Martha Nussbaum<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Sen\u2019s <strong>capability approach<\/strong> emphasises expanding freedoms by investing in health, nutrition, and education early in life.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">ICDS strengthens children\u2019s capabilities by:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">enriching cognitive development<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">improving physical growth<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">reducing lifelong disadvantages<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The sociological impact is intergenerational: a well-nourished child is more likely to stay in school, break out of poverty, and participate meaningfully in society.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"3\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong> Feminist Sociology: Anganwadi as a Site of Women\u2019s Empowerment<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">ICDS is also a feminist institution in two ways:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Women as Workers<\/strong>: Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and Helpers are overwhelmingly women.
