This creates complexities in <strong>authenticity, self-esteem, and interpersonal relations<\/strong>. Online spaces can also allow <strong style=\"font-size: inherit;\">marginalised groups<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">, like LGBTQ+ communities, to <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: inherit;\">express their identities more freely<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">, thus promoting digital inclusivity.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Social Control and Surveillance: Michel Foucault\u2019s<\/strong> concept of <strong>panopticism<\/strong> is highly relevant in the age of digital citizenship. The constant possibility of surveillance through <strong>CCTV, mobile apps, and data tracking<\/strong> creates a self-regulating citizen, raising questions about freedom and autonomy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong> Online Deviance and Anomie: <\/strong>In D<strong>urkheimian<\/strong> terms, the internet can become a space of <strong>anomie<\/strong>\u2014a normless zone\u2014leading to deviant behaviours like trolling, cybercrime, and online harassment. <strong>Lack of face-to-face accountability<\/strong> reduces social constraints, enabling behaviour that would be unacceptable in offline spaces.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong> Collective Action and Digital Mobilisation: <\/strong>Digital citizenship has enabled <strong>new forms of political participation<\/strong>. Movements like <strong>#MeToo<\/strong>, <strong>CAA-NRC protests<\/strong>, <strong>Farmers&#8217; protests<\/strong>, and <strong>environmental activism<\/strong> gained momentum through online platforms.
