The Uniform Civil Code is a <strong>classic example of law being used as an instrument of cultural hegemony<\/strong>. <strong>Emile Durkheim<\/strong> argued that law embodies the collective conscience of society. But in a <strong>pluralistic society<\/strong> like India, who defines that conscience?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Karl Marx\u2019s Conflict Theory: <\/strong>Marxist scholars view the law as a <strong>superstructural tool<\/strong> used by dominant ideologies to perpetuate their worldview.
