Did they represent the alternate life she was never allowed?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Could she have left the marriage before it began? Could her family have accepted her love for someone of lower status? Perhaps.
