In <\/span><b>commercial surrogacy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, especially before its <\/span><b>ban in India, poor women often &#8220;rented&#8221; their wombs to wealthy clients, with little control over the process. The surrogate\u2019s labor (gestation)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was <\/span><b>alienated, and the resulting child \u2014 the &#8216;product&#8217;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 was handed over to the commissioning parents, showcasing the separation between labor and ownership. <\/span><b>This mirrors Marx\u2019s theory<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of how capitalism <\/span><b>reduces human beings to instruments of production, reinforcing class inequality where the reproductive labor of marginalized women<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> becomes a <\/span><b>market commodity.<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><b>Emile Durkheim\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> analysis of changing social norms provides insight into how <\/span><b>surrogacy disrupts traditional understandings of motherhood and family<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
