Let\u2019s delve into some key points:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>GHG Emissions from Agriculture:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>According to India\u2019s Third Biennial Update Report submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the agriculture sector contributes 14% of the country\u2019s total GHG emissions.<\/li>\n<li>Within the sector, specific activities contribute to emissions:\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><strong>Enteric Fermentation:<\/strong> 54.6% of GHG emissions result from enteric fermentation (digestive processes in livestock).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rice Cultivation:<\/strong> 17.5% of emissions come from rice cultivation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fertilizer Application:<\/strong> 19.1% of emissions arise from fertilizer use on agricultural soils.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Manure Management:<\/strong> 6.7% of emissions are due to managing animal manure.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Field Burning:<\/strong> 2.2% of emissions occur from burning agricultural residues in fields.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-22406\" src=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/1-150x65.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"808\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/1-150x65.png 150w, https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/1-300x131.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 808px) 100vw, 808px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>India\u2019s Commitments and Challenges:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>During the 26th Conference of the Parties (CoP26), India made significant climate commitments:\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li>Reaching 500 gigawatts (GW) of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030.<\/li>\n<li>Producing 50% of energy requirements from renewable sources by 2030.<\/li>\n<li>Reducing carbon emissions by 1 billion tonnes by 2030.<\/li>\n<li>Decreasing the carbon emission intensity of GDP by 45% by 2030.<\/li>\n<li>Achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>However, India\u2019s rapid economic growth plans could lead to a 41% increase in GHG emissions by 2030.
