to marriages between persons of the same sex is a huge legal setback to the queer community in the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>Given the progress in law in recent years and the deepening of the meaning of individual rights, there was widespread expectation that the five \u00adjudge Constitution Bench would give the Special Marriage Act (SMA)<\/strong>, a law that allows any two people to marry, a gender \u00adneutral interpretation to include people belonging to the same sex.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Over the years, the amplitude of <strong>Article 21<\/strong> of the Constitution has been expanded to cover the rights of privacy, dignity and marital choice, but the highest court has stopped short of the extra step needed to allow marriages or civil unions that are not heterosexual.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19315 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-10-18-at-3.38.29-PM-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"Current affairs 18 October 2023\" width=\"309\" expectation that <strong>it would not allow discrimination against same\u00ad sex couples in the marital domain to continue.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Marriage is indeed a social institution, with its own legal requirements and conditions for what constitutes a valid marriage<\/strong>. The right to seek social and legal validation through marriage is a matter of individual choice protected by the Constitution, but the Court <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">still views it as being subject to statutory limitations.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">There is no disagreement among the judges about the right of such <strong>same\u00ad sex couples to cohabit and be free from coercion and threats<\/strong>. Of this, nearly $2 trillion needs to be directed towards energy transition alone.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">A fundamental statement in the <strong>Agenda 2030<\/strong> document detailing the SDGs, recognizes the indivisible and integrated nature of the 17 SDGs and their contribution to the three pillars of sustainable development.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">A lot of academic literature has also focused on the <strong>\u2018synergies\u2019 and \u2018trade\u00ad offs\u2019<\/strong> that exist in the pursuit of specific SDGs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>A recently launched UN Expert Group Report, entitled \u2018Synergy Solutions for a World in Crisis<\/strong>: Tackling Climate and SDG Action Together\u2019, also laments the lack of synergistic action in the face of significant (modeled) evidence.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">This said, policymaking processes are generally robust, with a clear view on synergistic outcomes, especially when multi\u00ad stakeholder approaches to policy making are practiced.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>At the same time, the ambitious renewable energy targets themselves became a barrier for small scale applications due to a misalignment of deliverables<\/strong>. It invoked the \u201caccepted view\u201d that marriage between a biological man and woman is a \u201choly union, a sacrament and sanskar (culture)\u201d in India.
