It encompasses <strong>shared customs, traditions, language, religion, and often a sense of belonging to a particular group.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Oliver C. Cox <\/strong>said that <strong>race is recent phenomenon<\/strong>. It could not therefore have origins in universal human sentiments that automatically <strong>made ethnic group hostile to one another<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">While there are some genetic variations among human populations, race is primarily <strong>a social construct<\/strong>. It is created and defined by society, often leading to racial stereotypes and prejudices. Ethnicity is <strong>often fluid and self-identified.<\/strong> Individuals may belong to multiple ethnic groups, and their ethnicity may change over time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Ethnicity focuses on cultural practices and values rather than physical attributes<strong>. People of the same ethnicity may share cultural traditions even if they have different racial backgrounds.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>There are significant differences in classical understanding of race and ethnicity<\/strong>; however the concepts have evolved to have a blurred\u00a0 <strong>distinction among them.\u00a0 It can be explained as follows<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Socio-cultural dynamics:<\/strong> Racial and ethnic classifications are influenced by social and cultural factors, leading to a blurring of boundaries. <strong>For example, an individual may be racially classified as &#8216;Black&#8217; but ethnically identify as African American, Afro-Caribbean, or African. <\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Historical Context:<\/strong> Historical events, <strong>such as colonization, migration, and globalization<\/strong>, have led to the <strong>blending of different racial and ethnic groups<\/strong>, resulting in the <strong><em>mixing of identities. <\/em><\/strong>This mixing can make it challenging to draw clear lines between race and ethnicity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Race rooted in western cultural history: Stephen Sinclair<\/strong> notes <strong>that \u201crace\u201d is an extraordinarily problematic debated<\/strong>, reviled and contested so fiercely yet still employed as it is clearly so intrinsically woven into the <strong>fabric of western cultural history. This <\/strong>interlinking of cultural history blurs the line of distinction between race and ethnicity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Inter-racial relationships and mixed heritage:<\/strong> High rates <strong>of intermarriage and the growing number of people with mixed racial and ethnic backgrounds<\/strong> contribute to the blurring of boundaries between race and ethnicity The children of interracial couples, for instance, often experience a <strong>&#8220;tug-of-war&#8221; between their parents&#8217; racial identities, <\/strong>leading to complex <strong>and fluid racial identification.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Subjectivity and ambiguity of race and ethnicity:<\/strong> Race and ethnicity are subjective concepts and inherently ambiguous. <strong>People&#8217;s self-perceptions of race and ethnicity can change over time and across circumstances,<\/strong> especially among those with heterogeneous ancestries <strong>James Manor has highlighted fluidity in character of ethnicity<\/strong>. <strong>This fluidity further contributes to the blurring of boundaries between race and ethnicity.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>New racism<\/strong>: <strong>Gilory rejected both biological definitions of race and studies of ethnicity that regard ethnic groups as having very strong and distinctive culture that are slow to change.<\/strong> <strong>Gilory <\/strong>has highlighted that <strong>phenomenon of new racism (propunded by<\/strong> <strong>Errole Lawrence<\/strong>) as a struggle in defining the race <strong>as new racism put great emphasis on cultural differences. This aspect highlights how racism is interlinked with ethnicity. <\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">For example: <strong>The Parekh Report commented\u00a0 that recently Muslim have emerged as the principle focus of racist antagonisms<\/strong> i.e. Islamophobia\u00a0 based on cultural difference <strong>hence touching ethnic contours<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Conclusion: <\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Overt racism<\/strong> becoming taboo in some parts of the world, in other places racially or ethnically motivated wars and <strong>even genocide<\/strong> still take place<strong>. While it is possible to address some of the problems that cause ethnic conflict and racial hatred, there are still many underlying factors that seem likely to continue to cause such problems for foreseeable future<\/strong>.
