the Kingdom of Tonga.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">It is one of 12 confirmed\u00a0submarine volcanoes along the Tofua Arc, a segment of the larger Tonga-Kermadec volcanic arc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">The <strong>Tonga-Kermadec<\/strong> arc formed as a\u00a0result of subduction of the Pacific Plate beneath the Indo-Australian Plate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">It is an\u00a0undersea Volcano\u00a0consisting of two small uninhabited islands, <strong>Hunga-Ha\u2019apai and Hunga-Tonga.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Generally, massive volcanic eruptions usually\u00a0reduce temperatures\u00a0because they spit out vast amounts of\u00a0sulfur dioxide,\u00a0which form\u00a0sulfate aerosols\u00a0that can reflect sunlight back into space and\u00a0cool Earth\u2019s surface\u00a0temporarily, generally referred as\u00a0Sun dimming.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" occurred\u00a0underwater.\u00a0The eruption of <strong>Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha&#8217;apai in 2022<\/strong>\u00a0produced a plume 58 km high, and produced the biggest atmospheric explosion ever recorded.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">The <strong>Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha&#8217;apai<\/strong> eruption is peculiar because, in addition to causing the largest increase in\u00a0stratospheric aerosol\u00a0in decades, it also injected vast amounts of\u00a0water vapor\u00a0into the stratosphere.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Water vapor is a\u00a0natural greenhouse gas\u00a0that absorbs solar radiation and\u00a0traps heat in the atmosphere.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">The aerosol and water vapor impact the climate system in opposing ways, but several studies have proposed that,\u00a0due to its larger and more persistent water vapor plume,\u00a0the eruption could have a\u00a0temporary net surface warming effect.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">The Year 2023 has recorded unprecedented temperatures. The <strong>Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture<\/strong> has urged the government to reconsider these rules to make them more practical.
