The Mission is implemented by the\u00a0Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD). SCM will be operated as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) where in the central Government proposes to provide financial support up to Rs.\u00a0100 crore per city per year. An equal amount, on a matching basis, will have to be contributed by the State\/ULB.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Core infrastructure elements <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Water Supply<\/li>\n<li>Assured electricity supply<\/li>\n<li>Sanitation, including solid waste management<\/li>\n<li>Efficient urban mobility and public transport<\/li>\n<li>Affordable housing, especially for the poor<\/li>\n<li>Robust IT connectivity and digitalization<\/li>\n<li>Good governance, especially e-Governance and citizen participation<\/li>\n<li>Sustainable environment<\/li>\n<li>Safety and security of citizens, particularly women, children and the elderly<\/li>\n<li>Health and education.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Components of Smart Cities Mission<\/strong> &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>City improvement (Retrofitting),<\/li>\n<li>City renewal (Redevelopment),<\/li>\n<li>City extension plus a Pan-city initiative in which Smart Solutions are applied covering larger parts of the city.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Approach &#8211;<\/strong> Area-based development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selection Process<\/strong>\u2013Each state will get at least one smart city.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each aspiring city competes for selection as a smart city in what is called a \u2018City Challenge\u2019. There are two stages in the selection process.<\/li>\n<li>The State\/UT begins with shortlisting the potential smart cities.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The first stage of the competition will be intra-state based on the criteria specified and the highest scoring potential smart cities will be recommended to Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs.<\/li>\n<li>The 100 such potential smart cities nominated by all the States and UTs will prepare Smart City Plans which will be rigorously evaluated in the Stage-2 of the competition for prioritizing cities for financing.<\/li>\n<li>The chosen ones will get Central fund of Rs 500 crore during 5 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Implementation &#8211;<\/strong>By Special Purpose Vehicles which will be promoted by the State\/UT and the Urban Local Body (ULB) jointly both having 50:50 equity shareholdings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Smart City Tag<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/triumphias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/smart-cities-india.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1348\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Centre has finally announced Shillong (Meghalaya) as the 100th and the last city under the \u201cSmart City Project\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Every city gets five years to complete its projects and the end date for Shillong is 2023.<\/li>\n<li>Each selected city is required to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle which will carry out the mission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>India Smart Cities Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The \u201cIndia Smart Cities Award\u201d was constituted last year to give awards in 3 categories with an objective to reward cities, projects and innovative ideas, promoting sustainable development in cities.<\/li>\n<li>The categories are \u201cProject Award, Innovative Idea Award and City Award\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Eligible Participants were Smart Cities only, where respective ULBs \/ Smart City SPVs were to submit proposals.<\/li>\n<li>This year, the <strong>city award<\/strong> is being given to Surat.<\/li>\n<li>It is for showing great momentum in implementation of projects especially in the categories of urban environment, transport and mobility and sustainable integrated development.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Innovative Idea award<\/strong> is being given to a project\/idea particularly remarkable for its innovative, bottom-up and transformative approach.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bhopal<\/strong> for their Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) and <strong>Ahmedabad<\/strong> for Safe and Secure Ahmedabad (SASA) Project were awarded this year.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Project awards<\/strong> are being given to most innovative and successful projects in several categories.<\/li>\n<li>Some of the categories are Governance, Built Environment, Social Aspects, Culture and Economy, Urban environment, Transport and Mobility, Water and Sanitation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr
