Suicide accounted for 1.4% of all deaths worldwide, making it the 17th leading cause of death in 2015. font-size: 14px;\">Why do Suicides Happen <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\"><b>\u00a0Depression<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">A study published by WHO to mark <strong>World Health Day 2017<\/strong> points out that depression and suicide are closely interlinked; at its worst, depression can lead to suicide.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">Depression is quite unlike the normal sadness we have all experienced.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">There are many cases that go undiagnosed because of our reluctance to talk about mental health.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\"><b>Substance abuse<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">Alcohol and drugs are risk factors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">While the person may not be addicted to alcohol or other substances, high intake can affect thinking and decision-making capacity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\"><b>Personal and professional stressors<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">Data from the <strong>National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)<\/strong> suggests that the biggest factors abroad: gender, age, and marital status are not necessarily the cause in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">The biggest factors seem to be relationship setbacks, family discord, educational and financial setbacks.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; This cools the surrounding air, forming a cold pool of air which sinks down and flows horizontally<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">The gusty cold wind that heralds an approaching thunderstorm is nothing but a cold pool, which plays a pivotal role in cloud dynamics.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">Unlike the Western Ghats, which run close to the west coast of India, the Eastern Ghats are nearly 200 km away from the coast.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">Therefore, the link between the mountains orography and the rainfall over the region is crucial.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">The cold pool was obstructed by the Eastern Ghats from flowing downward; hence it piled up and remained stationary over the Chennai region.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">The reason for the clouds remaining stationary was that there was a balance between the piling of cold pool along the mountain and the winds from the bay.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">Cold pools are known to play an important role in the dust storms (Aandhi) that form in northern India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">They form by the evaporation of raindrops.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">This process is more efficient in the drier and warmer environment as there is lot of scope of evaporation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">So, the cold pools that form in these conditions, are deeper and more vigorous.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">As pre-monsoon conditions in north India are very dry and warm, cold pools that accompany the pre-monsoon thunderstorms there are far more destructive, causing widespread damages.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\"><strong>How this study matters<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">For the first time, this study links cold pools and the mountain structure to explain rainfall over south India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\"><b>Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">The maternity benefits under PMMVY are available to all Pregnant Women &amp; Lactating Mothers (PW&amp;LM) <b>except those in regular employment with the Central Government or State Government or Public Sector Undertaking<\/b> or those who are in receipt of similar benefits under any law.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">The scheme is being implemented on a <b>60:40 cost-sharing basis<\/b> with the State governments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">It is for <b>first living child<\/b> of the family as normally\u00a0<b>the first pregnancy<\/b> of a woman exposes her to new kind of challenges and stress factors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">The Government of India has approved Pan-India implementation of PMMVY in all districts of the country under which the eligible beneficiaries get Rs. 5,000\/- under PMMVY<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">The remaining cash incentive as per approved norms towards Maternity Benefit under <strong>Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)<\/strong> after institutional delivery so that on an average, a woman gets Rs. 6000\/-<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">Objectives of this Scheme<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">Providing partial compensation for the wage loss in terms of cash incentives so that the woman can take adequate rest before and after delivery of the first living child; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">The cash incentives provided would lead to improved health seeking behavior amongst the PW&amp;LM.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">However, to address the problem of malnutrition and morbidity among children, the Anganwadi Services Scheme, which is universal, is available to all PW&amp;LM including the second pregnancy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">Further, in order to address the malnutrition and morbidity during pregnancies a number of interventions are provided to the pregnant women viz. universal screening of pregnant women for Anaemia and Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) supplementation, Calcium supplementation in pregnancy, Deworming in pregnancy, Weight gain monitoring and Counseling on nutrition, family planning and prevention of diseases.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">How this Scheme performed <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">After initial hiccups in implementing the maternity benefit programme Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), the government has finally made some headway and provided cash incentives to nearly 23.6 lakh beneficiaries out of an estimated 51.6 lakh a year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
