National Digital Library
- Ministry of Human Resources and Development has launched National Digital Library.
- It is a repository of millions of academic texts from around the world which will be open for all to use.
- The earlier version of digital library was limited to schools and other educational institutes.
- The digital library at present hosts 17 million-plus books, audiobooks, images etc. in 200-plus languages from more than 170 institutions.
- It has been built by the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
Objective
- The objective is to integrate several national and international digital libraries in one single web-portal. The NDLI provides free access to many books in English and the Indian languages.
- It will enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and adopt them.
- It will help researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources and carry out new analytics of text, audio, image, and video data to create new knowledge.
- Finally, it will support the continual evolution of new pedagogy of learning and new opportunities to lever- age ICT in education.
