Abhinav Siwach, 28, is a remarkable achiever from the village of Gaurakhapur in Fatehabad, now residing in Hisar’s Sector 16-17. Previously, he earned a commendable 16th place in the DMIS exams. However, driven by his ambition to become an IAS officer, he attempted the UPSC exam again, climbing to the 12th rank.
Currently serving as a Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Delhi under the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu (Civil) Services (DANICS), Abhinav had previously donned the role of a deputy collector in Haryana. His father, Satbir Siwach, is a DETC in Gurugram, and several family members hold respected positions in government services. His younger sibling is also gearing up for the Civil Services exam.
Abhinav pursued his B Tech from Delhi Technological University in 2016 and his MBA from IIM Calcutta. He has accumulated diverse professional experiences as a management consultant, an investment banker, and even worked for a commercial firm post completing his MBBS in Kolkata in 2018, before joining the Danika Service in 2020. Abhinav chose Sociology Optional by Vikash Ranjan Sir as his optional at TRIUMPH IAS subject for the UPSC Mains 2022 examination.
Balancing his full-time job as SDM for South Delhi, Abhinav allocated seven to eight hours daily for his UPSC studies. He maintained a disciplined lifestyle, avoiding distractions such as social media. His commitment continues as he commences his journey as an IAS officer.
Sociology by Vikash Ranjan Sir was Abhinav’s chosen optional subject for the UPSC CSE 2022 exam, a choice also made by other top rankers, including Jagrati Awasthi (AIR 2, CSE 2020) and Anu Kumari (AIR 2, CSE 2017).
For Sociology Optional preparation, Haralambos and Holborn’s ‘Sociology: Themes and Perspectives’ is a valuable resource. It offers a solid understanding of critical sociology topics and includes case studies to bridge theory and practice. Like most humanities subjects, writing is a significant aspect of sociology, requiring comprehensive note-taking, flowcharts, tables, and figures for clarity and retention.
Abhinav’s success story of ranking 12th in the UPSC CSE 2022 exam brings immense pride to his home state, Haryana.
